Universal Amphitheater, Los Angeles, California, USA
Best version:
RECORDER 3: you can distinguish REC3 from REC2 if you listen to the beginning of "It's A Miracle": you can hear a loud scream on the right side between the first 2 lines on REC3 (between "Miraculous you call it babe" and "You ain't seen nothing yet"). You can't hear any scream here on REC2. REC3 sounds better to me (more presence, less distorsion, less audience chatter, more dynamics, but REC2 has better basses). Also, REC3 seems to be incomplete and I think the first 7 songs (before "Dogs") are sourced from REC2. For the moment, I have REC3 sourced from mp3 only, I don't have a lossless version.
The problem with this show is that there are at least 3 different recorders in circulation with the same roio title ("Universal Waters") and without any exact information about the lineage.... Other versions I've heard:
  • "Universal Waters" - RECORDER 1: this is the roio that was first shared and originally weeded/treed on the Echoes mailing list in 2000. Therefore this is the only one that should be called "Universal Waters". It has the worst sound quality of the 3 recorders. You can easily recognise it, because someone very close to the taper (or maybe the taper) was taking photos throughout the whole show with an old analog photocamera and you can hear this sound of winding up the camera after a shot is taken during several songs.
  • RECORDER 2: 3 CD version of the show with fades-out/in between "Welcome To The Machine"/"Wish You Were Here" and "Every Strangers Eyes"/Perfect Sense". You can distinguish REC1 from REC2 if you listen to the beginning of "Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert": at 00.35 you can hear a woman say "...tickets..." on the left side on REC2 and REC3, but not on REC1. REC2 has batter basses than REC3, otherwise REC3 is better.

2002

2002. 03. 05.

"Welcome To Chile" - soundboard; floydfan2410 version; some say it is sourced from mp3, but in my opinion it isn't (maybe MD), sounds great, one of the best roios ever!

Slight distorsion in places, but overall this is the best source in my opinion.]
  Other versions I've heard:
  • Untitled - Macgunner's recording remastered by RodrigoGNR in Audacity 1.3.2
  • Untitled - Source: MM-MCSM-5 cardioids -> MM-EBM-1 (Bass Roll Off @ 69hz) -> Sony MZ-NH700 (PCM mode) -> Sonicstage 4.3; Transfer: WAV -> Cool Edit Pro (normalize 90%, fade in-out) -> dbPowerAmp -> FLAC (medium compression); Taper: FaaipDeOaid (faaipdeoaid@hotmail.com) [This is the 2nd best source, very clear sound, the only problem is the complete lack of bass. It would be a perfect matrix with Macgunner's recording, which has a rich bass. If the loud people on Macgunner's recording disturb you, then get this one!]

Untitled - "Analog Master RB" - source: Nagra IV-S Reel to Reel analog, Tape: New Scotch 3M-967 @ 7 1/2 ips, Mics: DPA 4022 mics - This is a wonderful recording, very heavy bass, it rocks! ;) - Patched version by Szabi (The original recording is incomplete: "In The Flesh", the beginning of "Mother", the end of "Any Colour You Like" and the beginning of "Brain Damage" are missing and "Leaving Beirut" is incomplete. These missing parts were completed with a patch from "The Pig Flew Over the Marcus". Some volume fluctuations during "Mother", "Sheep" and "Comfortably Numb" were also corrected.)
